Glass & Specialty

Glass and stainless steel toys are firm, smooth and completely non porous, so they clean more thoroughly than anything else we sell. They hold temperature too, which means you can warm one in water or cool it in the fridge for a different feel. This shelf also holds the specialty pieces that do not fit neatly anywhere else.

Why choose glass or steel

Borosilicate glass is the same heat resistant glass used in laboratory equipment and good cookware. It is strong, it will not absorb anything, and it can be washed in hot soapy water. Stainless steel is heavier, which many people enjoy, and it lasts a lifetime. Neither has any give, so the feel is very different from silicone. Our guide to silicone, glass or steel compares all three.

Using temperature

To warm a glass or steel toy, stand it in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes. To cool it, a short time in the fridge is enough. Always test the temperature on your wrist before use, and never heat a toy in the microwave or cool it in the freezer. A little goes a long way: a toy that is only slightly warmer or cooler than the body is noticeable straight away.

Looking after them

Check a glass toy for chips or cracks before each use and stop using it if you find one. Store glass and steel in a soft pouch so they cannot knock against anything. Because they are non porous, you can use any kind of lube with them, including silicone and oil based. More detail is in our cleaning and storage guide.

  1. Is a glass toy safe?

Yes, when it is made from borosilicate glass and has no chips or cracks. Check it before every use.

  2. Can I use silicone lube with glass or steel?

Yes. Glass and steel are non porous and are not affected by any kind of lube.

  3. How do I warm or cool a glass toy?

Stand it in warm water for a few minutes, or put it in the fridge briefly. Test it on your wrist first, and never use a microwave or freezer.
